10,000 Birds

If you are a keen birder or you are interested in learning more about birds, the site 10,000 Birds is an excellent resource to read and bookmark for future reference. The name of the blog makes perfect sense since there are approximately 10,000 bird species on earth. It's a very comprehensive site, providing a "source for birding, blogging, conservation, commentary, and so much more."

There are lots of useful features including a glossary, an impressive collection of photos (constantly being added to), reviews of birding books and photography gear, and many articles and interesting blogs. There is even a section featuring nature themed poetry and prose to inspire you and if you still need convincing to join in this fun and educational hobby (and addicting) there is a page of Reasons To Become a Birdwatcher.

The three men - Mike Bergin, Charlie Moores and Corey Finger - who together are responsible for producing 10,000 Birds do a sterling job and their enthusiasm for birds is contagious if you spend even just a little time exploring their amazing site. I highly recommend it. (Mind you, I'm a keen birder already so I would say that!) Seriously, though this is one of the best birding sites on the web. Please go have a look at the site and see for yourself.

Our English wildlife garden

Our English Wildlife Garden is an impressive site about creating a garden and how to attract wildlife. There are lots of photos as well as a handy index that provides the (Latin & common) names of each plant in their garden. The site also features a list of top ten plants with a brief description of each plant and the reasons why it is worthy of being on the list.

There are also instructions on how to build a hedgehog house and nest boxes for birds, with a list of nest box requirements for most european birds.

Shirls Gardenwatch - blog

Shirls Gardenwatch is a lovely blog about plants, birds and other wildlife in a garden in Perthshire, Scotland.

Shirl's blog is a joy to read because of her friendly banter about everything happening in the garden plus she shares camera views from the nestboxes and bird and wildlife videos.

Ecobirder blog

I was delighted to discover the Ecobirder blog with the tagline "Birding,Wildlife,Environment", because I'm a keen birder and I'm also very interested in other wildlife and about environment issues. Also, I noticed that 'Ecobirder' is from Minnesota. I'm from Minnesota too and even though I reside (happily) in England, I still hanker for 'home' and enjoy reading blogs by Minnesotans.

As you would expect, there are lots of stunning photos of birds (and other creatures) on the blog so if you love birds and wildlife, be sure and check out Ecobirder.

The Owl Pages - all about owls

Are you keen about birds, particularly owls? If you are fascinated by owls and want to learn more about them, The Owl Pages is the site for you.

Deane P. Lewis in Australia, created and maintains the comprehensive site. It really is a very impressive site with information about owl species, owl physiology, owl galleries, articles about owls, owls in art and mythology, and forums to discuss owls.

Birding, blogging, and bunnies!

There are so many good blogs on the web that it's difficult to pick and choose the best ones but it helps if they are informative, well-written, and updated regularly. Some of the very best ones are about unusual jobs or hobbies. And it always helps if a blog is also entertaining and fun to read.

Because it includes all of the above criteria, the first blog I'm recommending on Hunkydory Links is:
Birdchick Blog - "The birdwatching adventures of Sharon"

Sharon's delightful blog is very well-written, updated regularly and always informative. I learn something new all the time when I read about her adventures while birdwatching. And her blog is also entertaining, especially when she writes about her Disapproving Rabbits!

Birds of Britain

Birds Of Britain, The Monthly Web Magazine for Bird Watchers, has a lot of useful information for birdwatchers (such as myself).

There is a handy Bird Guide as well as well as a very useful County by County Guide to Britains Bird Reserves.
