If you enjoy knitting as much as I do, you will appreciate the delightfully named site, Laughing Hens where you can purchase yarns, kits and patterns plus a lot more, such as fabrics, books, a range of hand made items and even special occasion cakes.

There is also a Laughing Hens Knitting Forum where you can discuss knitting and seek advice if you need help with your knitting.

Laughing Hens also offers workshops (like a retreat for the day) which are held in Burwash in East Sussex in a rural setting. The workshops cost between £60-£75and include lunch and afternoon tea. Their beautiful rural cottage is also available for location hire.

Cast On - a podcast for knitters

Brenda Dayne, an American living in Wales, produces a very popular knitting podcast called Cast On. Brenda has a way with words and her soothing voice and thougtful musings about knitting, means that her podcast is always informative and entertaining. Brenda's friendly and lively chat is interspersed with lively music too.

I dare say that even if you don't knit, you would probably enjoy listening to Brenda's Cast On podcast. Give it a try and I bet you will become addicted to her podcast like I have!

Dutch Blue - a crafty blog

Dutch Blue is a lovely blog about knitting, quilting, embroidery and other crafty pastimes. The blog is written by Corry, living in the Netherlands.

Learn to Knit and Crochet

Learn to Knit and Crochet is the internet site of the Craft Yarn Council of America. The site offers basic instructions about how to knit and crochet as well as quick project ideas, and projects featured in magazines.

Crochet 911 and Knit 911 offers additional information and useful advice about how to knit and crochet.

Chick Knits - a website & a blog about knitting

Chick Knits is a fantastic knitting site that offers complimentary patterns, knitting tips, articles, links and a fun and useful Chick Knits blog by Bonne Marie Burns.

Yarn Thing - a podcast/blog

Yarn Thing is a charming podcast by Marly, "...a stay at home mom who LOVES to knit and crochet..."

There is also a blog for podcast notes called Yarn Thing Podcast and Marly's personal Yarn Thing blog.

I love her motto: "Love, Laugh, Crochet, Knit!"

KnitWit: a lovely podcast (not necessarily about knitting!)

Recently, I've discovered the wonderful world of podcasts and I think my latest discovery is a real treasure. Although the podcast is called KnitWit: Rantings of a Rabid Knitter it is not neessarily just about knitting! In fact, Carry talks about lots of different topics.

On her 'about' page, Carry says: "I started this blog to share a podcast of my stories of knitting, spinning, living with fiber animals and general observations on life. I hope you enjoy it."

So far, I've only listened to her last two podcasts, KnitWit 58: Abernathy and KnitWit 59: And Then.

Wow - Carry has a way with words! I love the way she tells her stories. Listen to her podcasts and I know you will agree. This podcast blog is absolutely wonderful. Enjoy!

(By the way, there is no need to have an ipod or any other kind of .mp3 player to listen to the podcasts. You can listen through the speakers on your computer)

If you are new to knitting or haven't knitted in a while and need a refresher course, the site, Knitting Techniques, is just what you need. It's very good because it shows animated knitting techniques.

Do you enjoy knitting? Have you tried knitting socks? If you are hesitating because you think it would be too difficult, I've got just the link for you: Socks 101. The site provides clear step by step instructions plus photos to make the instructions even easier to understand.

Terri Lee Royea (creator of the sock tutorial) has a lovely blog called KnitBlog: "my ramblings about knitting, greyhounds and life in a Canadian national park."
