A Way with Words - public radio language show

I love words and learning about the history and origin of words, so I was delighted to discover a site called A Way with Words, which is an hour-long public radio show about language, presented by Martha Barnette and Grant Barrett.

You can hear episodes for free by listening in the browser or downloading an MP3.

There is a forum on the site too.

If you are learning English as a second language - or teaching English - the site, UsingEnglish.com provides many of the resources you need.

The site includes an English grammar glossary, a dictionary of English idioms and expressions, 256 free English language quizzes and many more English language resources to help you study.

The site also offers a forum for discussion, questions, and support.

It's fun, entertaining and educational.

There is a lot on the site including a useful guide for tourists in London with "amusing and useful tips for visitors to London", an interesting and informative section about the origin of London's place names and a feature about language and liguistics including a very useful section about English Usage in the UK and USA.

This is a fantastic site and offers a choice of three formats: the standard edition (free of charge), personal edition - the same as standard but for downloading(still free but requires registration), and the deluxe edition which is printable and which requires registration plus a donation of US$11.00.

A blog by an American expat in France

French Word-A-Day is both a fun and informative blog by an American expat (from Arizona) living in France.

Kristin Espinasse always writes in an entertaining way about her life with her French husband and children and the challenges of learning the language. The added bonus of reading Kristin's blog is her French "lessons" in each post which are a fun and easy way to learn French along with her.

The American's guide to speaking British

The American's guide to speaking British is exactly what it says. It's a fantastic site - very useful and also very entertaining! I highly recommend it.

The site is conveniently divided into seven sections with lists to explain the difference between words used in the UK and the USA.

It's a handy resource and it's also a fun site to share with others. Enjoy!
