LooseStitch is a free collaboration tool for writers. It's fun to use - although I found that it takes a bit of practice to figure out how it works. You can create outlines for all sorts of things and invite as many friends as you want.
I think students may find LooseStitch particulary useful. However, it's worth noting that "Pages being shared may be promoted and linked by crossroad solutions as example uses of the Service."

The Awesome Highlighter
The Awesome Highlighter is a very cool web tool.
It's just like the yellow highlighters people use to highlight bits of text in a book, but The Awesome Highlighter is a free tool for highlighting bits of text on webpages. It's super easy (and fun!) to use. After you've selected the text you want highlighted, the site provides a small link to the webpage with the highlighted bits. You can choose to send the link to yourself or share it with friends.

Studentastic - how to survive as a student
Studentastic is a very useful website for those of you who are about to start university.
The site is a fantastic resource for students entering university in the UK with lots of articles offering practical information including advice about accommodation, budgeting, and creating a CV and cover letter.
There are also helpful articles about socialising and relationships and how to cope with homesickness. There is a feature about how to prepare for potential emergencies too.
To help with planning and packing for university, there is the handy pre-Uni checklist.

Beyond Baked Beans is a cookery site aimed at students. According to the site, Beyond Baked Beans is "The best student food and cookery site in Britain." It's fun but very useful - with plenty of quick & easy recipes - and the casual attitude is perfect for students.
